A learner may communicate, process information, behave or complete tasks differently from others. Different does not mean less able.
Sometimes, when a child does not respond in the way we expect, we tend to focus on what they cannot do. Instead, we should look for their strengths, abilities and potential; while supporting the areas they find difficult.
In the Classroom
• Look for what each learner does well and make a note of it.
• Avoid defining a child by their difficulties or diagnosis.
• Give pupils different ways to show what they know.
• Maintain high expectations whilst providing appropriate support.
• Remember that progress may look different for different learners.

Just as different mines contain different treasures, every learner has their own strengths, qualities and potential. Our role as educators is not simply to notice what a child finds difficult, but to recognise, nurture and bring out the strengths Allah Ta‘ala has placed within them.
